The Great Cloth Diaper Change!

Here it is everyone! The week that most Cloth Diapering Mommas wait for! Today marks the beginning of the Great Cloth Diaper Change week!

What is the Great Cloth Diaper Change? It originated as a plan in North America to bring together moms that cloth diaper. Word quickly traveled across the oceans and it was soon evident that cloth diapering has a formidable following not just in North America but around the world! The point of the GCDC? Show the world that this eco friendly option is not only better, but its quickly growing in popularity! Each year the event is an attempt to beat the previous years’ Guinness world record of babies changed into Cloth Diapers at the same time!  Several countries hosted GCDC 2011 locations even though for some it meant getting up in the middle of the night to do so. (In Malaysia they changed at 2AM!)

How does it benefit or aid in the spread of CDing? Well, each year the even grows tremendously. This year there are over 17 countries on the list for large events to host the change! The list includes Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Germany, Spain, Finland, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and the US. Each event raises money by donation only to go towards the Real Diaper Association. You might recognize that name because I quoted them in my Reasons to Cloth Diaper Post! Each year the World Record has been broken, in 2012 the GCDC successfully broke the record they set in 2011 on Saturday, April 21, 2012 with 8,251 qualifying participants at 189 locations on 4 continents!

How Does it Work? You find an event near you, and you register. Easy Peasy! Guinness World Records has some strict rules in order to qualify. You must change your baby into a diaper that is available for wide purchase (so a name brand, not a WAHM or handmade diaper) and there must be one adult to each child that is changed, so a mommy of twins couldn’t change both. Most natural parenting stores will host an event.

What does that mean for me? I’m going to be counting down the days until Saturday, obviously! My town is coupling the Change with the local Natural Parenting Expo, so all kinds of local Eco-Friendly vendors are going to be there. I’m going early to get registered for the change that happens at noon, and then after that I’m volunteering there for a little while. I can’t wait to change Elliot! I just have to decide which diaper I want to change him into! haha

What does that mean for YOU? I’ve got some fun blogs coming this week! I’m kicking it off with a review and CD giveaway from The Cloth Menagerie! I’m also going to be giving you a stash update, counting off my top 5 favorite diapers, and doing a post all about Wool!

Will you be changing your baby this Saturday?
